College is an oppertunity to learn and experience a gradual move into society. It truely is what you make it. I think alot of people realize you're stepping into a whole new world where no one knows you and it can be very scary. I also believe there are alot of those people who forget that "no one knows you". This is the time to reinvent yourself to be whoever you want if you choose to make this change.
When I came to SMU I knew of a few friends coming from my school to smu but only 2 actually living on campus. One was really more of an aquaintance than a friend. I had my group of friends in highschool and like the "clicks " go I sat with the wrestlers on the opposite side of the table of the football players at lunch. We just stuck together as best friends do. Until senior year when a alien to our table decieded to join us. We all knew him and he just did not fit in at all. This kid was a nerd of nerds but not really a bad person just somone you kinda felt sorry for.
I think thats an appropriate disscription and backstory to the person he used to be. I used to give him all kinds of trouble for just awkwardly sitting with us without saying anything. I was a real jerk to him but it usually got a few laughs. I never mean to hurt but I usually won't kid around with you unless i like you. So here is the shocker. I was at a party recently and I saw this guy there talking, being social, and participating in activities foriegn to him. I called him over and said "hey" and told him my amazment in his change. He then THANKED me for being a jerk in highschool claiming that he was really awkward and probably deserved it. He told me if I hadnt been a jerk , he would have had no reason to realize things he should change. I said "you're welcome?" with a perplexed raised eyebrow.
I think its so amazing how he could just transform like that. I hope that people will have the courage to change what they dont like about themselves when they get to college. But not in a bad way, just things they'd like to improve upon. Its a fresh start, don't blow it.
...and yes I'm trying to be nicer as well.

i agree and this this is a very good post. try spell check before posting next time. good post.
I have also noticed that people change from college. It's weird sometimes you can just tell that people have changed because you can't escape your roots. Sometimes people change for the worse because they can't fake it for to long.
